Abstract：Previous studies on humorous discourses were mainly from perspectives of cognition, function, semantics, logic and psychology and few discussed humorous discourses on the adaptation theory. This thesis analyzes humorous discourses in Two Broke Girls based on the adaptation theory. It shows that humorous discourses are the result of the speaker’s making a choice of language and also the result of adaptation to the mental world, the social world and the physical world. This thesis can broaden the scope of the study of the adaptation theory. And it is beneficial for people to appreciate American sitcoms.
