《根据原理教学:交互式语言教学》是由美国旧金ft大学语言学院院长布朗所著。作者在该书中从理论和实践的两个层面,全面分析了外语教学过程中各种要素的动态依存关系以及教学原则和实施步骤。全书共有 22 章,分布在四部分。第一部分为课堂教学的理论基础,第二部分是教学情境分析,第三部分为课堂教学活动的设计与操作,第四部分是关于教室中的常见问题。本次翻译实践是节选书中第 22 章《终身学习:不间断你的教师教育》进行翻译。

第 22 章《终身学习:不间断你的教师教育》突出强调教师终身学习的重要性。布朗号召教师要成为“顶峰表现者”——将个人潜能完全发挥出来的人,并且写出了优秀语言教师应该具有的基本品质,还将这些特征列成了可以进行对照检查的 30 条清单。

这一章的导入部分是论述“教师的角色与风格”,写出了教师应该扮演的角色和具备的风格,以便让学生最愿意接受;建议教师不断学习,充分发挥教学优势,成长为一名有影响力的老师。接下来作者指出为什么教师需要不间断地学习,包括如何成为一名顶峰表演者,提出了设定切合实际的目标、确定优先事项、敢于冒险、管理压力等实用原则。对于如何成为优秀的语言教师,作者列出了优秀教师的一些特点以及便于自我检查的一组清单。之后是关于课堂观察,指导教师如何通过观察自己的课堂活动来提高教学技能,也相应地给出一份自我观察清单。最后是“课堂研究”部分。作者指出了教育的误区,提出了一些研究案例,鼓励教师对教学研究要充满信心。书中还给出相关建议,指导教师实行简单有效的行动研究,成为一名更优秀的语言老师。

本次翻译实践总结由四部分组成。第一部分是引言,主要介绍本次所译章节的基本内容。第二部分是介绍此次翻译的过程。第三部分是阐述了翻译过程中遇到的问题及解决的依据和方法,主要是一些专有词汇的表达和长句的翻译。第四部分是结论,对此次翻译实践的总结和反思。

 

INTRODUCTION

Teaching by Principles :An Interactive Approach to Language Pedagogy is written by H.D. Brown, Dean of the College of languages at the University of San Francisco. With theories and practical activities, the author comprehensively analyzes the interdependence of various elements in foreign language teaching, as well as the teaching principles and implementation steps. The book consists of 22 chapters distributed in four parts: Foundations for Classroom Practice(Part 1), Contexts of Teaching(Part 2), Designing and Implementing Classroom Techniques(Part 3) and Classroom Practicalities(Part 4). Among them, chapter 22 is excerpted for translation, namely Lifelong Learning: Continuing Your Teacher Education.

In chapter 22, the author highlights the importance of teachers’ lifelong learning. Brown  calls  on  teachers  to  be  “top performers” — people  who  develop  their full

potential, talks about the basic qualities that a good language teacher should have, and makes a list of 30 things for teachers to do a self-check.

The introduction of this chapter is to discuss the “role and style for being and becoming a good teacher”. The author suggests that the teacher continue to learn, give full play to the teaching advantage and grow into an influential teacher. Then he  points out why teachers need to learn uninterruptedly and how they can become top performers and puts forward practical principles such as setting realistic goals, setting priorities, taking risks, managing stress, and so on. As to becoming a good language teacher, the author makes a list of the characteristics of a good teacher and a set of easy self-examination lists. And then it's about Classroom observation and how to improve teaching skills by observing their classroom activities with a self-observation list. Finally, it talks about “classroom research”. The author points out the misunderstandings of education, puts forward some suggestions and research cases and encourages teachers to be full of confidence in teaching research. It’s suggested that teachers carry out simple and effective action research and become a better language teacher.

The essay on translation practice consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, mainly introduces the basic content of the translated chapter. The second part introduces the process of translation. The third part deals with the problems in the process of translation and methods of solving them( e.g. the expressions of some special words and the translation of long sentences). The fourth part is a conclusion  for this translation practice.
