我所选取的第九和第十章节主要讲述了迦勒在遇到充满生机与活力的基特之后变得独立开朗起来，他敢于去商场为即将过生日的基特挑选礼物，还要求独自一人去散步，这都是他之前想都不敢想的事。因为不再像以前那样依赖家人，所以他的妈妈也逐渐发现了这些变化。有一次迦勒和基特约会见面时遇到了被拴住的小狗，于是两人决定将它解救出来并给予食物，可就在这次行动中，迦勒突然发病并晕倒过去。等他醒来之后为了不影响他和基特之间的友谊发展，他向基特讲述了自己的病情，袒露了自己的心声。

INTRODUCTION

This novel is written by Beth Vrabel, a famous American children’s writer. It mainly describes the friendship story between the little boy Caleb and the little girl Kit. Unfortunately, twelve-year-old Caleb was suffering from cystic fibrosis, which means that his lungs are full of mucus, which made Caleb weak, short and thin. It seems that he has shorter lives than the average people do. Caleb tried hard to make people think he was fine, but Caleb’s mother and brother were always worried and nervous about his health. Caleb’s world was not changed until he met Kit. Kit is free, cheerful, confident and full of energy. Kit told Caleb that they were destined to be friends. She made Caleb know that the order and rules of life are not necessary, and everyone can have his own adventure. In the process, changes and subversion made Caleb question whether his friendship with Kit was really beneficial to them. Kit’s concealment and deception also represented danger. What will they do?

The ninth and tenth chapters I chose to translate mainly focused on Caleb becoming independent and cheerful after encountering energetic Kit. He dared to go  to the mall to pick gifts for Kit’s birthday. He wanted to walk alone. It was something he had never expected to do before. Slowly, his mother discovered that Caleb began to become independent. Once Caleb and Kit were on date and they met the dog who had been caught, so they decided to rescue the dog. Caleb suddenly fell ill and fainted. When he woke up, in order not to affect the friendship between him and Kit, Caleb told Kit about his illness and his feelings.
