Abstract: Ezra Pound is regarded as one of the most important imagist poets. He is proficient in both the ancient and the modern and good at absorbing the strengths of different civilizations for his own use. In particular, Pound sings his praises of ancient Chinese civilization, conducts a thorough study of Chinese literature and poetry and seeks the truth of Confucianism. Chinese classical poetry, which is full of images, has a profound impact on Pound; the Confucian thought has become the leading spirit of The Cantos. The Chinese elements in his poetry writing have already been widely accepted by Chinese academia. This essay is trying to discuss the underlying motives in the author’s keen attention to Chinese poetry and Confucianism, and to reveal that Pound’s attempt is just the embodiment of Western mode, so as to understand thoroughly the primary purpose of comparing Chinese culture with Western culture，which is to find out the similarities and differences between the two cultures, promote mutual understanding, and finally surpass the ethnic living conflicts to build up a mutual spiritual framework.

摘要：埃兹拉·庞德是美国最重要的意象派诗人之一。他谙熟古今，善于旁收博采，撷取各国文明之长为己用。尤其值得一提的是庞德还是中国古代文明的歌颂者，他深入研究中国文学与诗歌，探索孔子哲学的真谛。充满意象的中国古代诗歌对庞德的诗歌创造产生了深刻影响，孔子的哲学思想成为了庞德代表作《诗章》的主导精神。庞德诗歌创作中的中国元素的存在早已被中国学术界广为认可，本论文试图探讨的是潜藏在诗人对中国诗歌和孔子思想热切的关注背后的动因，揭示诗人这一诗歌尝试正是西方思维模式的一种体现，从而更深刻地理解进行中西方文化比较的目的：找出两种文化的同或异，促成两种文化的相互理解，最终逾越民族生存冲突，建立某种共同的精神构架。
