ABSTRACT:With the implementation of Reform and Opening-up policy, an increasing number of political neologisms with Chinese characteristics emerge to satisfy the need to portray these new things and phenomena in the field of politics.The appropriate translation of Chinese political neologisms can serve as the guidance for foreigners to understand socialist characteristics and our policies and reinforce our relationship with other countries. This thesis focuses on the principles and strategies of Chinese political neologismsbased on the analysis of abundant neologisms in the field of politics which have appeared since 1978. INTRODUCTION
With the progress of globalization and the implementation of the policy of reform and opening up, China has witnessed considerably great changes. Political neologisms with Chinese characteristics emerge to satisfy the need to portray these new things and phenomena in the field of politics. Neologisms not only give expression to the latest social changes but also enrich languages and cultures. The appropriate translation of Chinese political neologisms can serve as the guidance for foreigners to understand socialist characteristics and our policies. Thus a systematic study of the translation of Chinese political neologisms helps to facilitate mutual exchange of China and Western countries, reinforcing mutual relationship and eliminating mistakes in the process of translating. The translation of Chinese political neologisms is worthy of our studies and an increasing number of translators are showing interest in the translation of Chinese political neologisms. This thesis aims to study specific principles, strategies and techniques employed in the translation of Chinese political neologisms, explicitly pointing out circumstances under which they can be practiced. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter is about some related research achievements in this field. In the third chapter, a comprehensive study on the definition, the origin and features of Chinese political neologisms is made. The fourth chapter is about the principles and strategies of Chinese political neologisms translation, involving the advantages and disadvantages of domestication and foreignization and specific translation techniques. In addition, the author also discusses when to employ these techniques. The fifth chapter concludes the the thesis. |
