Abstract:Along with the rapid development of globalization, more and more people have begun to realize the importance of English learning. English teaching has become one of the most important subjects in junior middle school. However, under the great pressure of the examination-oriented education system, students have to learn new words by heart mechanically and spend more time on doing exercises. As a result, they are tired of English learning and become inactive in class. In order to solve this problem, according to the constructivist learning theory, students can learn well by building a connection between the old and new knowledge. So teachers should design the lead in teaching step carefully because it can mix the old and new knowledge at the very beginning of class. This thesis mainly discusses the importance, functions, principles and especially the techniques of lead-in applied to English classroom teaching.
