Abstract
The English-Chinese translation of TEM-8 is to test of students’ comprehensive use of the English language. However, it turned out that during these years, the translation section of TEM-8 is rather difficult for all test participators who often get lower grades due to these difficulties. Hence this thesis mainly analyzes the four kinds of typical errors resulting from the difficulties in the English-Chinese translation part of TEM-8 and they are the copy of functional words in the source text, the copy of word order and expression in the source text, the lack of full understanding of lexical ambiguity, and the lack of background knowledge. The paper also proposes some suggestions and methods to cope with these errors, such as the strengthening of the sense of linguistic contrastive studies, the command of translation strategies and techniques, the practice of English-Chinese translation. Finally, this essay comes to a conclusion concerning English-Chinese translation of TEM-8 which is expected to provide some references for the future related issues.
