Abstract: Along with the deepening of the reform and opening up, a large number of foreign language talents who can be skilled in the mutual translation between Chinese and English are in an urgent need. The lack of chunks and the degree of anxiety are the key factors influencing the interpretation quality. Based upon chunks theory and interpreting anxiety theory and directly guided by the anxiety degrees in Dong Yanping’s interpreting scale, as well as the data of accuracy rate in four types of chunks, the paper reports an empirical study to analyze whether anxiety degrees affect chunks quality on the interpreting quality in Chinese-English interpretation. The study finds that altogether, anxiety doesn’t affect the overall output much, but does affect the output of institutionalized utterances and sentence frames. At last, suggestions concerning learning and teaching of interpretation are put forward to improve interpreting proficiency of interpreters.
