Abstract: Globalization has been increasingly important in the modern society. As a result, more and more Silicon Valley companies begin to enter into Chinese market. Thus, the translation of the companies’ names in the Silicon Valley has become a main focus for the translators and scholars. Since Yan Fu’s theory of translation is considered as the most widespread guiding principle of translation with a far-reaching influence in China over a century, the translation of a great many companies’ names tend to follow Yan Fu’s theory and obtain a positive effect in the market of China. On the basis of Yan Fu’s theory, this paper analyzes the features of the translation of the companies’ names and the four strategies used during the process of translation, namely transliteration, annotated transliteration,literal translation and zero translation. After analysis, two suggestions were proposed for the future translation of the companies’ names in the Silicon valley.
