Abstract:“Cultural awareness” is the concern of fundamental foreign language education in China. The Ministry of Education in China issued The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools in 2003, which states that developing cultural awareness is one of general curriculum objectives in senior high schools. In 2010, the set of textbooks published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press was used in Sichuan province. In the set of textbooks, every cultural corner”, more English teachers are devoting themselves to developing students’ cultural awareness in better ways. This paper analyzes definitions, objectives and contents of cultural awareness. And then it explores the problems in developing cultural awareness in senior high schools. The measures to the problems are proposed at last. They are giving cultural knowledge in the process of English teaching, students’ learning by themselves to gather the cultural knowledge in daily life, using multimedia resources and the practices of dialogue and role-play in EFLT.
