Abstract Pre-writing activities can not only draw students’ attention to the writing task and get different ideas about it, but also make writing easy. This paper is based on the teaching ideas of “the Process-oriented Writing” and gives an analysis at the usual teaching practice before writing. More importantly, this paper puts forward several effective pre-writing activities and lists some examples of these activities. The author hopes that the teachers can be inspired and the students can get help before they write English compositions.
