Abstract:English as one of the main subjects in senior high school, it plays an important role in improving students’ overall competence. However, the traditional model of English teaching can not meet the students’ desire for English learning, the appear of English second classroom teaching can be the good moment for schools and teachers to transfer their teaching methods. English second classroom teaching is also named outside-classroom learning. Second classroom teaching aims at abilities fostering, interests improving and horizons broadening of the students. In a word, this kind of course will have a great help for students to make a preparation about their stepping into society in the near future. Hence, English second classroom’s carrying out in senior high school is imperative. There already have some studies about the English second classroom teaching in senior high school home and abroad. The aspects of those studies inland are about the association construction, the development tendency, and the talent cultivation of the English second classroom teaching. There are still some specific studies from abroad. For instance, Critical Thinking written by Brooke Noel Moore and Richard Parker. Critical thinking has become one form of English second classroom teaching in Chinese senior high school, which as a course emphasizes necessary conditions of credibility, rather than sufficient conditions, and makes the material more useful. This paper has three main research methods: interview, questionnaire and classroom observation. It mainly studies the current situation of English second classroom teaching and the reasons for the current situation. The current situation mainly includes four main parts. The first part is about the lack of relative materials and information of the application of English second classroom teaching. The second part is about the awareness. The third current situation is that the English second classroom teaching is not widely applied in senior high school. In other words, the popularizing rate of it is not high. The last one is that though its development degree is not high, it gradually develops in all kinds of senior high school, especially in private senior high school. Next is about the reasons for the current situation. There are three main reasons for these current situation. The first one lies in the teaching mechanism and the teachers. The second reason lies in the students. The third one lies in the parents. Finally, it will present the data collected from the field investigation and come to the conclusion after data analysis.
