ABSTRACT: Nowadays, a mightly curriculum reform in compulsory education is being carried out in China. In our country, we have published the compulsory education “English Curriculum Standards” of 2011 edition; it clearly points out that “we should strengthen the guidance of learning strategies, train students' autonomous learning ability”(23-25). We can see that the “English Curriculum Standards” reflects more humanistic, scientific and comprehensive. Since “English Curriculum Standard” advocates the task-based teaching, task-based teaching has been developed and applied in our country a lot. It emphasizes that students can learn by doing. That is means “student-oriented”. What’s more, let the students try their best to participate in classroom activities, so that students can improve their reading ability through thinking, cooperation and communication. In addition, we can easily find that the score of reading part is very high in the high school English papers. So, I think it is necessary to investigate the application of task based teaching in English Reading Teaching in senior high schools. And then we can find the problems, put forward proposals, self-examination. So as to promote the localization of task based teaching, explore the task based teaching model with Chinese characteristics, make students learn English more effectively and improve their reading abilities.
