Abstract: The English Homework is an extension of knowledge understanding and a way to help students to develop their abilities. In 2011, the Ministry of Education published the New Curriculum Standard, which gives more guidance to English teaching and describes more things than before. Under the new curriculum, many positive changes have taken place in teaching in recent years. But it has little effect on English homework. Though some research topics related to English homework have been paid attention to, these researches are not so systemic, comprehensive and in-depth. It is known that homework is a good way to test teacher’s teaching and a good way to get feed-back, so the study about homework is of great importance. Based on the analysis of researches on homework at home and abroad, this thesis uses questionnaire, interview and literature review to study the current situation of junior middle school’s English homework. Questionnaire is designed for Longquanyi No.7 Middle School’s students while the interview is prepared for 12 teachers. This paper is mainly about the time needed for students to finish English homework, purpose, form, delights, correcting methods and so on. After analyzing the results of questionnaire and interviews, I will give some suggestions to English teachers, such as enriching the forms and content, assigning English homework at a appropriate quantity, assigning different English homework to different students, correcting homework in various ways and so on. These suggestions can improve the current situation of English homework; help students to meet the requirements of new curriculum standard; make parents, teachers and students pay more attention to English homework; test teacher’s teaching much more better and to get better feedback. Key words: Junior school students; English Homework; current situation; suggestions
