ABSTRACT
In the age of Internet, electronic dictionaries gradually substitute the abridged paper-made dictionaries, students are learning vocabularies by relying on digital products. Additionally, students vary from each other in terms of different vocabulary learning strategies. For most English learners, learning vocabulary is their first step, as well as their first barrier. So it is of great importance to choose appropriate vocabulary learning strategies. This paper intends to study the vocabulary learning strategies of college students in the Internet context through questionnaire and interview. This paper focuses on three points: 1). Which strategies are most used and least used by college students in the Internet context? 2). What are the differences of vocabulary learning strategies between English majors and non-English majors in the Internet context? 3). What are the differences of vocabulary learning strategies between successful English learners and unsuccessful English learners. Through this study, the author finds that 1). Compensation strategies and memory strategies are most frequently used by college students while metacognitive strategies and social strategies are least used in the context of Internet. 2) English majors use memory strategies most frequently while non-English majors use compensation strategies most frequently. 3). Successful English learners use metacognitive strategies most frequently in the Internet context while unsuccessful English learners use memory strategies most frequently.
