Abstract: The Joy Luck Club is the masterpiece of Amy Tan,a Chinese American woman writer.In the novel,she tells the story of four groups of mothers and daughters.Because the four mothers are Chinese immigrants and their daughters were born and raised in the United States,there are contradictions between them.She describes their conflicts to show us different cultural traditions.All four mothers have their own worldviews and this is based on the life experience of the Chinese people.They want to tell their experiences to their daughters one by one,and try to resolve the cultural differences and conflicts between them and their daughters by expressing their love for daughters. Through the analysis of life styles of the four groups of mother and daughter,this paper shows the differences between Eastern and Western cultures to readers ,and also reflects the incompatibility between Eastern and Western cultures by expounding the contradictions and conflicts between mother and daughter.Finally,the mutual understanding between mother and daughter fully reflects great of maternal love and the integration of Eastern and Western cultures.This article focuses on how Chinese immigrants and their descendants view the differences between Chinese traditional culture and American culture, and how to solve contradictions, so as to improve people's understanding of Chinese and Western cultures, correctly treat differences, absorb the essence, and learn from each other’s advantages and disadvantages.
