Abstract:Idioms is the concentrated reflection of a nation’s cultural beliefs and practices. In different countries, different expressions are produced under the influences of cultural background, history, myth, belief and other aspects, which are the most direct and vivid reflection of the culture of a country and a nation. Language is the carrier of cultures; each language has its unique historical allusions, idioms, proverbs and other language forms. Jia Yuxin, a Chinese scholar, also concludes four kinds of cases: words with the same index meaning, different or opposite associative meanings, words with the same demonstrative meaning and part with the same associative meaning. In this paper, I will focus on the differences between Chinese and English idioms and animal idioms. There may be different views about history or culture, but in this article, simple comparison is more important than academic analysis.Try to set aside personal concepts and compare cultural differences from a relatively objective perspective.
