Abstract:With the increasingly frequent communicationamong the countries in the world, the channels of communication between China and other countries also become more extensive. Especially in the aspect of culture, the forms are various. So we have introduced a large number of excellent foreign films and TV serials, which shows the importance of subtitle translation. The culture between China and other western counties are different. And language is the carrier of culture. Therefore, the translators have to understand both the Chinese and Western culture deeply. Only in this way, the subtitle translation is good enough to make people understand the film deeply. Only in this way can the purpose of introducing foreign films be achieved. Comparatively speaking, films and TV serials subtitle translation is a new field of translation, which has been developing after the Reform and Opening up. Therefore, this paper close to study the subtitle translation of films and TV serials, elaborated characteristics of subtitle translation, and the problems that should be paid attention to in thesubtitle translation reflected of the film Forrest Gump. Nida’sfunctional equivalence theoryis chosen to analyze this paper. This is because the theory proposed the conception: the receiver of the translation should respond to the translated information in the same way as the receiver of the source language to the original text. So, it is very appropriate to use this theory to analyze the subtitle translation of films and TV serials. In the same way, during the translation of subtitle, you are not required to translate literally between the two languages, but to achieve functional equivalence, which enables the audience to truly understand the content of the film and to achieve the purpose of translation.
