Abstract: This study aims to analyze the influence of the distinction between Chinese and English customs on the study of oral English for English learners through three aspects: traditional etiquette, festival conventions and traditional customs, Moreover, in this paper, the author illustrates the reasons for the influence by taking apart British and Chinese differences in different values and notions, ways of thinking and so on. This paper is meant to attract English learners’ attention by explaining several phenomena concerning distinction between Chinese and English conventions and analyzing the positive and negative influences on spoken-English learning. In this way, awkward situations out of misunderstanding can be avoided. The English learners can practice their oral English in a more effective way by reducing those mistakes in English communication made out of the ignorance of the distinction between Chinese and English customs.
