Abstract: Taking A Dream of Red Mansion for example, this study aims to study the translation strategies of idioms including literal translation, free translation, borrowing translation, amplification and annotation. A large number of idioms in this book have been carried out to analyze and discuss when and how these methods should be applied. Through the detailed introduction of these five strategies, it is hoped to relief the stress of the translators so that they could use these methods flexibly to convey the meaning and emotion of the original works exactly; thus foreign people could understand our Chinese culture better.
