Abstract: In this paper, the author tries to put forward translation methods that can be used by the translators such as literal translation, free translation and compilation from the perspective of the functionalist theory, taking some public signs in the scenic spots of Nanjing as examples,with the conclusion that the quality and the sense of responsibility of the translator should be improved and the appropriate regulatory agencies should supervise. Only in this way, can the specification of the Chinese-English translation of public signs in tourist attractions be achieved. Along with the rapid development of economic globalization, the communication between international is becoming increasingly frequent. Urban public sign translation, as one of the important bridge of Chinese and foreign communication, attracted the domestic language world more and more attention and research.
