Abstract:To study abroad has been a strong trend in global education against the background of increasing international cultural communication and cooperation. Apart from the required level of language and academic record, Chinese applicants for overseas schools or universities should submit a whole set of written documents to foreign education institutions, such as resume, recommendations, personal statements, etc. However, most Chinese applicants tend to get them ready first in Chinese and then have them translated literally, ignoring or ignorant of the cultural factors which have a strong impact on the translation and writing for those documents. Based on the author's experience of preparing and translating documents for overseas graduate study, this thesis mainly analyzes the difficulties in the process of the C-E translation and writing, and the effective translation strategies and methods from the cross-cultural perspective.
