Abstract: As is known to all, vocabulary is an important part of English learning. In order to help people memorize words easily, some traditional methods of English words learning are introduced. This study aims to verify whether pictographical association is effective on word memorization. Another aim is to study the influence factors such as the starting line and sex. To draw a conclusion, group experiment is put to use. The experiment subjects are the students of two classes in our major. To make a comparison, we did the test for twice which include the pretest and posttest. Analysis of the test data is calculated by SPSS. The results showed the positive effects that pictographical association does play a role in word memorization and it has nothing to do with the starting level and sex. That is to say pictographical association can help people remember words easily and permanently which will improve their reading and writing ability indirectly.
