Abstract: Chinese coinage gradually becomes the research object of specialists and scholars. And the English translation of Chinese coinage is playing an increasingly crucial role in the course of prompting the enrichment and enhancement of language and cross-cultural communication. The paper mainly makes an analysis on English translation methods and skills of Chinese coinage. Based on research achievements acquired previously, this paper applies Peter Newmark’s translation theory- semantic translation and communicative translation to the analysis and exploration of English translation of Chinese coinages collected. The subject of this paper is how to promote the flexible and appropriate translation of Chinese coinages into English. In other words, the main content is about translating Chinese neologisms into accurate and idiomatic English and conveying Chinese culture connotation. The paper aims at identifying defects and problems in the translation practice and putting forward some suggestions and countermeasures to these relevant problems.
