Abstract: This thesis aims to study the current situation of Grade 9 students’ use of English learning strategies under the guidance of the new English curriculum standard. A survey is conducted to investigate English learning strategies employed by 350 students in Grade 9 from three junior high schools. The results show that every strategy listed in the questionnaire has been used by the participants. But the frequency at which they use these strategies are low, which indicates that they do not fully make use of the English learning strategies. There is a gap between the ability acquired by the students and the ability desired by National English Curriculum.
