Abstract: Inquiry-based learning lays emphasis on the cultivation of students’ study interests and acquisition of experience. It requires students to develop a learning style of active participation, inquiry and cooperation. Although the New Curriculum Standard has some requirements of Inquiry-based learning, Inquiry-based learning is still rarely applied in English teaching, especially in junior high school English teaching. On the basis of classroom observation of two teaching cases and interviews with the students, the author analyzes the application of IBL in junior high school English teaching and supplies some suggestions for it.
