Abstract: This thesis emphasizes the pursuit of identity of the leading character in Invisible Man. Through analysis on the reasons for his back-and-forth changes in the attitude to his identity, the essay points out how a man should face himself, realize himself, and be himself. The essay also reveals the pursuit for one’s identity is not only influenced by the family, but also by the society, even by the history and the culture. Therefore, in searching for his identity, one must break the shackles of traditional ideas and social worldly prejudice, abandon illusory thought and blind worship, as well as face his own identity and respect it, so he can find himself and realize the value of his existence.

摘要：本论文着重探讨了《看不见的人》中主人公对自我身份的追寻，分析了他在追寻过程中反反复复的矛盾变化及原因，进而指出个人应该如何面对自我，认识自我以及保持自我。本文同时分析出，一个人对自我的追寻，不仅受家庭的影响，更受社会大环境的影响，受历史文化的影响。因此对自我的追寻要突破传统观念的束缚，突破社会世俗的偏见，抛弃虚幻思想和盲目崇拜，正视自己，尊重自己，才能真正找到自我，实现自我存在的价值。
