Abstract: As a famous short story writer, poet, and literature critic of 19th-century America, Edgar Allan Poe is recognized for his unique language and form of writing. The dark and mysterious style of writing and his fascination for blood and death that are exhibited in his gothic novels make him extraordinarily well-known. He did inherit a lot from the traditions of Gothic literature, and he also broke bravely new ground to create his own horror tales of psyche thriller. This thesis will start with Allan Poe’s background information to discover the reasons for his creation of gothic novels. Poe’s short stories which has worldwide influence are the research objects, and his contribution to continuation and development of gothic novel will be discussed from the aspects of plot, subject choice, description of psychology, embodiment of esthetic characteristics and creative meaning of new style. Poe’s artistic innovation and his transcendence of the contemporary writers will also be studied, confirming his status and impact in world literature. Key words: Gothicism; Allan Poe; short stories
摘要:埃德加·爱伦·坡是十九世纪美国著名的诗人、小说家和文学评论家。在爱伦·坡的文学作品中,语言和形式最为有特点,特别是他那些具有哥特风格的小说,以黑暗和神秘的写作风格,以及对血腥和死亡的迷恋而著称。他继承了传统的哥特文学并对歌特体小说的要素进行革新,把关注的焦点由外部的恐惧转向内在的心灵恐惧本文意从坡的背景信息入手,对其哥特小说创作的原因进行分析,并以其具有世界影响力的短篇小说为研究对象,对其哥特式风格的特点进行剖析,从情节,主题,题材的选择、心理描写、审美特征的的表现以及新风格的创新意义等方面考察爱伦·坡对哥特式小说的承袭与改造,并对坡的艺术创新和对同时代作家的超越进行讨论,以明确坡在世界文学史上的地位和作用。 关键词:哥特风格;爱伦·坡;短篇小说 |
