Abstract:America is a great and powerful education nation. There is not a national system of education in the United States. It is for the states to make policies for the education within its boundary, so many variations can be found in the education systems of the 50 states. It carries out the educational policy of public and private schools to develop simultaneously, which direct the US education to form the characteristics of multiplication. In view of which ones are better--public or private schools, the Americans from all walks of life have debated unceasingly. However, more and more American parents prefer to send their children into private schools in recent years, rather than into public schools. The poor parents who put in priority the public schools begin to suspect whether the public schools are really good for their children or not. In this essay, the author will make a comparison between public and private schools in various aspects. Through an analysis and comparison, we can know the advantages and disadvantages of public and private schools in the hope of taking other country’s teaching merits to develop our education. Key words: education;public schools; private schools;comparison;advantages;disadvantages
