Abstract:Scenery description, also known as environmental description, plays a very important role in the characterization and plot development of literary works. Luotuo Xiangzi,as one of Lao She’s masterpieces, has a wonderful scenery description. However, domestic research only focuses on the dialect, style and idiom translation of Luotuo Xiangzi and there are not many articles relating to the scenery description. So far, there are mainly four English versions of Luotuo Xiangzi------Rickshaw Boy by Evan King, Camel Xiangzi by Shi Xiaoqing, Rickshaw by Jean James, and Rickshaw Boy by Howard Goldblatt. This paper selects several scenery description examples of the first three English versions which can reflect the differences in translation strategies to compare, find that different translator tend to choose different translation strategies in dealing with the same text, as well as gives a little analysis of the reasons for this phenomenon under the guidance of Venuti’s theory. The reasons include different social and political backgrounds and the translators’ different target readers and purposes. 摘要:景物描写又称环境描写,对文学作品的人物塑造和情节发展起着非常重要的作用。而老舍的《骆驼祥子》作为其最重要的代表作之一,拥有非常精彩的景物描写。国内对于《骆驼祥子》的研究主要集中在其方言,风格,和习语翻译方面,涉及景物描写的文章并不多。迄今为止,《骆驼祥子》的英文译本主要有四种,分别是Evan King的Rickshaw Boy,施晓菁的Camel Xiangzi,Jean James的Rickshaw,还有Howard Goldblatt的译本 Rickshaw Boy。本文选取了《骆驼祥子》前三种英文译本中能够体现翻译策略差异的景物描写例子进行比较,发现不同译者在处理相同文本时会选择不同的翻译策略,并且运用韦努蒂的归化异化理论分析造成这种现象的原因,主要包括三位译者所处的政治社会背景不同,还有译者个人不同的目的和不同的目标读者群。 关键词:骆驼祥子;景物描写;归化异化 |
