Abstract:Vocabulary acquisition is an important aspect of second language acquisition. However, vocabulary learning has always been the most challenging and time-consuming part of second language learning process. And to most learners, one of the greatest obstacles in English learning is to build their vocabulary. This thesis is an attempt to find out some vocabulary learning strategies which are used with the highest frequency among the 150 senior students of Tengchong No. 8 Middle School based on questionnaires. The results show that the students use some mechanical strategies (like verbal and written repetition) most frequently. Instead, some complex strategies (like using new words in sentences, connecting words with personal experience) are seldom used. On the other hand, although many students value the importance of some vocabulary learning strategies, they seldom apply them. This shows that there are certain differences between their cognitive understanding and real application. In addition, the results also show that most of the students lack of the awareness of learning vocabulary through group work activities. All these suggest that vocabulary learning is a weak process in English learning and teaching. The students should enforce their understanding towards vocabulary learning strategies and try to apply them in their study. 中文摘要:词汇习得是二语习得的重要部分,但是词汇学习一直以来就是二语学习过程中最具挑战性和最耗时的部分。对大多数学习者来说,英语学习中最大的障碍之一便是扩大词汇量。这篇论文主要采用问卷调查,以腾冲第八中学150名学生为例,分析了我国目前高中生学习英语词汇的常用方法及存在的问题。调查结果表明,学生最经常使用的是一些机械的方法,如反复拼写、一遍一遍口头重复等,而一些复杂的策略(如用生词造句、把单词同自己的经历结合起来等)很少被使用。资料分析还显示尽管很多人认为某些策略很有用,但却不使用,这表明学生对词汇学习策略的理性认识和实际使用之间存在较大差距。此外,调查还发现,大部分学生都没有小组活动的意识,很少有人能从小组活动中学习单词。这表明词汇教学在高中生的英语教学中依然是一个薄弱的环节,学生们需加强对学习词汇策略的认识和应用。 关键词:第二语言习得;学习策略;词汇学习;英语词汇学习策略 |
