Abstract:Pride and Prejudice is a famous classic English novel written by Jane Austen, which is still popular today. It should be contributed to excellent translations and its translators. Wang Keyi and Sun Zhili are two famous translators in translating Pride and Prejudice. Their translations are debated by many readers and critics. In translation criteron, professor Liu Zhongde plays an important role. His three characters’ translation standard “faithfulness (xin)信, expressiveness (da)达 and closeness (qie)切”, is influencial in contermperary translation circle, which is closer to the developing trend of translation and is well received by many translators. Thus, the thesis is focused on comparing two versions of translation from the perspective of “faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness”, and try to find out their advantage and disadvantage, so that readers can understand the book better. The first chapter is a brief introduction to Pride and Prejudice, the author Jane Austen and the two translators Wang Keyi and Sun Zhili, for an elemantary understanding to the background of the book and its surroundings. In the second chapter, translation theory of “faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness” is introduced, which is put forward by Liu Zhongde and influencial in modern translation circle. The third chapter is on case analysis, which mainly focuses on some representative sentences or paragraphs to analyze the two translations by faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness, the three principles Liu put forth. Finally, conclusion is made. Wang Keyi and Sun Zhili are trying to make their translation closer to the original in style. And Sun Zhili is slightly superior than Wang Keyi.
