Abstract:Teaching language can be divided into two kinds: verbal and nonverbal language. Verbal language is considered as our most important, efficient, powerful way of communication. Teachers mainly communicate in classroom through verbal language. But teachers should not ignore the nonverbal language. In English teaching, nonverbal teaching is an important complement to verbal language. Body language is one of the most important nonverbal language teaching; it is means to teachers using eye contacts, postures, facial expressions, gestures, and other body movements to transmit information. In the English teaching, body language is teachers’ vocal language’s vital auxiliary tool and beneficial supplement. It can intensify the language information and leave the students deep impression, , activate learning enthusiasm, optimize the teaching effect, help the teachers and the students develop a good relationship,help the teachers achieve a higher teaching goal. This paper introduces two kinds of teaching language verbal and nonverbal language, analyzes the body language of features and functions. Therefore, in English teaching, teachers should pay much more attention to body language and properly use it. The English teachers who can use body language properly would receive the effect “Silence is better than any voice at that time”, and would improve the effect of classroom teaching at the same.
