Abstract:Eric Arthur Blair was an English author and journalist. He was better known by his pen name George Orwell. His famous work, Animal Farm, is a dystopian allegorical novel. The novel tells the story of what happens when the oppressed farm animals rebel, drive out Mr. Jones, the farmer, and attempt to rule the farm themselves, on an equal basis. It reflects events leading up to and during the Stalin era before World War II. As people are paying more and more attention to the novel, it is worthy to analyze the allegorical meaning of this novel. The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is a brief introduction to George Orwell and his novel Animal Farm. Chapter two analyzes the novel’s satire of the corruption of Soviet revolution through allegorical allusion. Chapter three is devoted to analyzing the symbolic meanings of the specific things, characters, and events in the novel. Chapter four serves as a conclusion, presenting the purpose of writing this thesis.
