Abstract
On the basis of the definition of Forsytism, this thesis gives a detailed analysis of the Forsytism of the Forsyte family mainly on the protagonist Soames in The man of Property. To reveal the Forsytism of Soames incisively and vividly, this thesis is to study the Forsytism based on Soames in the novel. And Soames is the man of property and takes everything as his property, even including his wife. He marries a woman named Irina that does not love him. He takes her as a property rather than lover. Finally, his wife elopes with his cousin, Joan’s fiancé Bosinney. Unfortunately, Bosinney dies accidentally, so Irina finally has to come back to Soames. The rift between them will not be completely healed. This thesis is composed of four parts. The first part is introduction which introduces the main content of The Man of Property and the author Galsworthy briefly. The main body of this paper describes the theory, including the Forsytism, the cause of the apathy and the human nature distorted by the sense of property. The conclusion summarizes the summary of this paper.
