Abstract
Pragmatic theories and translation theories are widely used in translation, especially in the process of translating from Chinese into English. To study the pragmatic functions of language, and to make use of them properly, people should pay great attention to the differences in the historical background, cultural customs, ideas and beliefs in Chinese and English. When people learn and apply English, they must understand the culture that is closely related to English. At present, cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries are gradually developing, so people use the theory of pragmatics in translation is particularly important. Based on the basic principles of translation and pragmatics, this paper mainly uses the example research to study the reproduction of cultural color, the reproduction of style color, the overlapping of emotional color and the pragmatic meaning in the specific contexts,how to transmit the pragmatic meaning correctly and to achieve a good cross-cultural exchange effect. The results indicate that in the process of Chinese-English translation, the emphasis on the color of the language, the color of emotion and the pragmatic meaning in the specific context will make translation better for the English to express the ideas more closer to the original meaning in Chinese. The transmission of pragmatic meaning in the process of Chinese - English translation is of vital importance. Key Words: pragmatics; culture; context; translation
