Abstract
Ever since the publication of the first volume, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in 1997, Harry Potter series has been winning worldwide popularity. Unlike other magic novels, seemingly isolated from yet closely related to the real world, lots of elements in this imaginary world of Harry Potter can be traced back to English cultural origins, such as customs, rules, schooling, and names which among numerous factors are going to be the major focus of this thesis by consulting Jung's myth-archetypal critic theory and theories of onomastics. So far, this type of research has been rarely conducted.
Key words: Harry Potter, naming, Archetypal Theory, culture
