Abstract
Language plays a quite important role in our human communication, and as one of the main subjects at school, the learning of English in school is quite important to the students. Listening and speaking are two basic skills in the English teaching, which should be paid more attention. Nowadays, almost all the teachers adopt the Situational Approach to assist their teaching of English. However, there exist some problems in the creation of real situation in English teaching such as some teachers ignore the teaching objectives when they try to create the English-learning environment, and some teachers’ creation of real situation cannot be fully understood by students. In order to know more about teachers’ application of the Situational Approach to English listening and speaking class, and try to come up with some useful suggestions to help students have the better English learning, the author of this paper carries out the research through the class observation and questionnaire survey. The paper includes five chapters. Chapter one is an Introduction which includes research background, research significance, research questions and also general structure. The research background mainly talks about the importance and necessity of English learning and the current situation of the application of the Situational Approach in English listening and speaking class. Chapter two is the Literature Review including an introduction to the Situational Approach and the requirements for listening and speaking in the National English Curriculum. The former contains both the origin and the current research of the Situational Approach. Chapter three is the Research Procedure about the application of the Situational Approach to English listening and speaking class. It contains research subjects and research methods. And also the content of the questionnaire will be included. Chapter four is Data Analysis and Academic Discussion. Both the class situation and the data of the questionnaire will be analyzed. Chapter five is Conclusion. Some significance findings will be discovered and also the weakness of the research will be pointed out.
