Abstract
Lead-in is the first stage in English classroom. It is about three-five minutes when a teacher starts to have a new lesson or presents a new knowledge. “It is a technique used by teachers at the beginning of a presentation to prepare students to learn and establish a communicative link between the learners and the information about to be presented.” There is a kind of phenomenon called “primacy effect” in psychology, in which the words like “front”, “beginning”, “first time” can attract a person most. A good beginning is half done. So, a good lead-in is a key point for a successful English class. It can activate the atmosphere in English lesson and stimulate students’ interest and motivation, serving as a magnet to draw students into the class and help students to get a clear idea of what are going to learn. It is also an essential part for our efficient classroom. If only we have a good lead-in, can we enlighten students, mobilize their learning enthusiasm and achieve ideal teaching result. Therefore, it is very essential for teachers to design effective methods for lead-in to attract students’ attention in the class immediately, by which the whole teaching procedure can go smoothly.
