Abstract

 

With the development of the globalization, movie has become an important culture media since December 28th, 1895, which can be accepted easily in intercultural communication. At the same time, more and more people pay close attention to the movie.

People know the movie title firstly. Although the title is just a little part of the movie, its translation plays a very important role. The translation of English movie title plays an significant role in deciding its box office. Since title is the eye of a movie, the movie title translation has an important effect on the spread of the movie and its study. 

However, different translators will have different translations of the same movie title because of their own ideas, experience and knowledge. The thesis attempts to have a research on English movie title translation in terms of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory. This paper first analyzes the features of English movies, and then the function and importance of movie title translation are introduced to illustrate the examples of English movie title translation from the perceptive of communicative translation and semantic translation on the detailed study.
