Abstract: As an independent subject, English plays an important role in the primary education and is a major difficulty in teaching. A lot of researches into the senior high school and college students have shown that the ability of students’ English writing is related to the teachers’ feedback. On the basis of some English writing related literature materials, the author investigated 234 students from the First Secondary School of Guali in Xiaoshan, interviewed six students and three teachers and has reached the following findings by analyzing the data collected from questionnaire and interview: Firstly, most students realized the importance of the teacher’s writing feedback, but the attitude to coping with feedback was negative. Secondly, there are different effects with different types of feedback for students’ writing. Finally, most students expected to receive the teacher’s writing feedback which is more effective, detailed and targeted. Therefore, the author has the following suggestions: Firstly, teachers should give different feedback on the basis of the real situation of students’ writing. Secondly, students should be encouraged to amend their writings according to the teachers’ feedback, pay attention to the process of writing rather than the result. Lastly, teachers and students could regularly communicate and discuss to satisfy the need of students, enhance the efficacy of the feedback and improve the students’ writing competence. However, further study is needed because of the limitations of time and other factors.
