Abstract: Culture awareness includes cultural knowledge, cultural understanding, intercultural awareness and competence. While teaching, teachers should not only introduce the cultural knowledge, but also lay stress on developing students’ intercultural awareness. To introduce cultural knowledge in English class makes students learn the culture of English-speaking countries which promotes students to understand and apply English language better, to comprehend and cognate the indigenous culture deeply, besides, cultivating their consciousness of globalization and developing their awareness of intercultural communication. Because of cultural awareness is one of the criterion in judging students’ comprehensive language competence, I made investigation on students and English teachers in Dawan Middle School by questionnaire and interview. So that I learn the current situation and analyze the problems of cultural awareness cultivation in English teaching Key Words: cultural awareness, intercultural communication, intercultural teaching, high school English teaching
