Abstract With the development of educational innovation, English subject has played a more significant role in Chinese education. In this case, educators concentrate more on what goals should be achieved after a student's learning of English course and also more attention is paid by teachers to design a lesson plan. However, under the big pressure of high school and college entrance examination, the design of English class activity still lacks reasonable consideration. This thesis is based on Yafu Gong's multiple teaching goals. Classroom observation, interview and questionnaire are adopted to answer the three research questions: First, teachers in middle schools have the awareness to achieve multiple teaching goals or not when they design a lesson plan? And what are the manifestations? Second, in daily teaching, what kinds of class activities do teachers usually use to cultivate students' key competences? Third, what problems or difficulty do teachers in middle schools have when they design class activities? The research results indicate that most of the English teachers in middle schools have awareness to achieve multiple teaching goals while designing a lesson plan. They have tried many kinds of activities in class, such as group discussion, dialogue report, role play, and speech or presentation which can help cultivate students' communication competences, logical and critical thinking, and also social awareness. The problem is that the teachers can't have a good control of activity difficulty. What's more they always use simple activities without creativity.
