Abstract
Many critics pay much attention to Bertha Mason, one of the female characters of the beloved classic novel Jane Eyre. She is always seen as a stumbling block of Jane's happy marriage or demonized and marginalized. The image is not re-interpreted until the feminism rises. In fact, both Jane and Bertha are brave resister in male-dominated society, and this thesis focuses on Jane and Bertha’s rebellions. By analyzing their rebellion behaviors and reasons, it can be concluded that most of Jane’s rebellions are reasonable, while Bertha’s are unreasonable. Modern women learn from this thesis that they can receive personality independence through education and financial independence.
