Abstract
Film, as an important carrier of art and culture, has played an increasingly significant role in daily life. The film art has brought leisure and entertainment for the majority of the audience, and gradually become the effective tool for the dissemination of culture. This thesis is an analysis of the film Grandson from the United States, which tells the story of the Chinese shadow play artist the old Yang and his grandson Brooks. The old Yang is the symbol of Chinese traditional culture, who worships the Monkey King, while Brooks is the representative of American culture and worships the Spiderman. Due to cultural differences between China and America, a series of confrontation and conflicts frequently occur. After the tortuous collision and mutual tolerance, the old Yang and Brooks eventually become best friends, turning conflicts into integration. This thesis first mainly analyzes the cultural differences between China and the United States from three aspects: language, daily diet and values, then analyzes the possibility and inevitability of cultural integration between China and America, in order to express the theme that the ultimate cultural integration between China and America is the needs of the times.
