ABSTRACT
Cooperative learning is a kind of teaching activity with a learning team as the basic form. By interpersonal communication and mutual help, the teaching dynamics of interaction and cooperation are used to achieve learning goals. Cooperative learning is a new learning method advocated by the New English Curriculum Standard. Cooperative learning is not only helpful to cultivate students' consciousness of cooperation and collective spirit, stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm, and eliminate the disadvantages of students' passive learning, but also improve students' competitive consciousness and the ability to gain information from multi-channel and contribute to the formation of a new type of teacher-student relationship, thereby enhancing students’ English comprehensive ability. Guided by cooperative learning research results abroad and at home, this dissertation takes the theories of cooperative learning as its theoretical bases. It also takes the New English Curriculum Standard as its guidance, uses the research methods of literature analysis to learn and analyze the present situation of the application of cooperative learning in middle school English teaching and tries to provide suggestions on improving cooperative learning of middle school English teaching. It is hoped that these suggestions will enhance students’ cooperative consciousness, cooperative ability and interest in learning English and the efficiency of middle school English teaching.
