Abstract: With the increase of international exchanges in economics. Inter-cultural activity is attracting more and more attention. For the linguists, they have set their attention not only from language perspective, but also on intercultural differences. Foreign movie is becoming increasingly a hot spot for understanding and are welcomed by the public in China. As a new field of research, multi-modal analysis provides a new insight in the research of subtitle. In China, there is a lack of intensity in subtitle studies. Mistranslation and clumsiness of subtitle are commonly seen. This essay is going to study subtitle translation from multimodal perspective and discuss Zhang Delu’s framework of multimodal analysis to trough 4 different levels of discourse. This essay will briefly go through the difficulty and complexity of subtitle translation and analyze the subtitle of the movie The Flowers of War using Zhang Delu’s framework.
