Abstract: Mrs. Dalloway is one of the most famous works of English feminist writer Virginia Woolf in the 20th century. The novel concentrates on the protagonist’s ambivalent psychology. Through the description of Mrs. Dalloway’s life condition, the author points out two sides of her personality --- conflicts and compromises. This paper aims to analyze the formation of Mrs. Dalloway’s personality from the perspective of the psychology. The first part mainly discusses her ambivalent psychology in terms of internal self and external image, ideal love and realistic marriage, a traditional wife and an independent female. The second part focuses on the analysis of the causes of her conflicts and compromises. The effect of the war, patriarchal society and capitalist system lead to Mrs. Dalloway’s ambivalent psychology.
