摘  要:目前对于惯性的定义一般以牛顿第一定律给出，而事实上人们对惯性的认识各有各的看法，从某种意义上来讲，牛顿第一定律给出的惯性的定义及其意义是模糊的，是有待于完善的。由牛顿第一定律给出的惯性是有其局限性的，故此，我们以其为出发点来理解客观世界的物理现象也是有局限的。而对惯性的进一步认识有利于我们对客观物理世界的本质性理解。为了集思广益，从多个角度来讨论惯性问题，是接近惯性本质的重要途径。就惯性的本质而言，本文涉及到惯性与能量、惯性大小的量度以及惯性的存在性性质；就惯性的起源而言，涉及到惯性的电磁起源和相对论起源。本文通过对惯性本质和起源的讨论，对惯性有了更加深刻的理解。惯性不是物体所具有的性质，它与物体的个别特征无关，惯性只是存在的一个性质，是被研究对象周围的环境在此对象上的表现，也就是说它是存在于物体周围的一种条件，一种约束。物体的惯性是时间均匀性与空间对称性的必然结果。关于惯性的起源问题，在本文中所涉及的电磁起源和相对论起源都有各自的理由，电磁起源并没有成功找到惯性的起源，而相对论起源是席艾玛等人为惯性找到的一个宇宙学起源，已经得到一定程度的认可，是本文就惯性的起源问题所支持的观点。
