教材内容分析

This unit is the third unit of new textbooks for Grade Ten students. The theme of this unit is Family Love. This unit is closely related to students’ daily life, so they will have strong a desire to participate in relevant activities, which can help students make progress and build up confidence.

This unit includes four parts: Understanding Ideas, Using Language, Developing Ideas and Presenting Ideas. The first part presents a play Like Father, Like Son. The features of a play will be introduced. And the play mainly focuses on improving students’ reading ability. 

Using Language centers on writing. The writing task is about students’ looks at different ages. Before writing, an email about changes in physical appearance will be presented, which includes many new words about describing people’s appearance. So the email helps students to build vocabulary for the writing task. After learning this part, students can describe their looks. 

For the third part, students are going to learn a passage Just a brother. In this passage, some new phrases will be presented. For example: in the lead, in trouble, it is … to do. After learning these new phrases, some questions introduced by “What’’ “Who” “When” “Where” and “Why” are presented. Students are required to retell the passage with these questions. This task helps the teacher to test students’ understanding of the passage. The whole passage aims to help students to form active attitude about family. 

In the last part, the main task is about the saying “Home is where you are loved most and act the worst.” There are two questions for it: 1. What does the saying mean? 2. Do you agree with it? Give examples to support your opinion. This task can not only improve students’ speaking ability and thinking ability but also make students reflect on their relationship with their parents.

Knowledge objectives:

1. Students can have a general understanding of the structure of play.

2. Students can master the structure of an email. 

3. Students can master the new words and the new phrases(an approach to, assume…).

Ability objectives:

1. Students can improve their reading ability by getting the main idea and answering detailed questions. 

2. Students can improve their speaking ability by retelling text and answering questions about family arguments. 

3. Students can use the new words to describe the changes of physical appearances.

Emotion objectives:

1. Students can be confident about learning English through various activities.

2. Students can learn to value time after picture comparison.

Culture awareness:

Students can understand their family and pass on the virtue of filial piety.
